Thrown into a vast ocean as soon as you click “new game”, you’ve no idea what’s going on. ![]() Abzû is the perfect example: there’s not much in the way of narrative and characterisation going on, but this is a game that still, somehow, demands to be played. But not always sometimes a game can be a memorable experience without some of the key elements we’ve come to expect to find in the most defining and groundbreaking games. Is it well-developed gameplay? Masterful storytelling? Eye-popping visuals? Believable and relatable characters? Usually, it’s a mixture of everything. ![]() What makes a game truly stand out from the crowd?
